... but i just put up another version that i think i like better. they kinda fucked up the alignment, i had had it off to the side and they centered the right-justified text -- hella weird.

i want to start a series called "That's It?" where we walk through horrendous outages that took many people many hours of debugging time to resolve, with all the metrics and clues they used

then show how they would have found it in honeycomb in 1-2 clicks, every goshdarn time.
a dear friend visited last week. they run a tight shop with good engineers, but have ... outgrown their tools.

he was describing this thundering herd problem, where thousands of workers would spin up and hammer the one redis cpu. it took a long time to discern this and why.
he was describing all the truly impressive heroics they underwent, and then he says skeptically "and honeycomb would help me with this ... how?"

me "oh god so easy. just sum up all the time spent by the workers, break down by backend or userid, either way it's *right there*."

I feel like there needs to be a ceremony or a party for managers when they go back to being ICs.

Burn some sage, change your email, paint your calendar black. Burn a sheaf of perf reviews. Dance naked on desks in the dead of night, softly chanting "not my problem, not my pr--"
Ahem. But this reminds me. We need to hear these stories. If you go from being a manager, director, VP etc to a senior IC role, I beg you to PLEASE write about it.

i've been consulting for 15 years.... and honestly most people don't read the reports that they pay for. I try and make it mandatory that we do a debriefing with a presentation to cover the key elements from any project to make sure people are informed #consulting #truths
I once flew out to Helsinki to support a large scale PC refresh programme. the role for the few days was to answer questions from the customer which were covered in the migration guide...
Another great part of consulting is where you get to help people progress their own journey. I must have interviewed hundreds of people over the years and almost all the time their management haven't developed a meaningful (if one at all) training and development plan...

2/ #CPS: The CTU won’t agree to the money until it gets the other items on what Jackson calls its “social justice bargaining” agenda.

#ME How do Black and Brown children get anything w/o a justice oriented agenda? Or, a demand? Better question: Why don’t they already have it?
3/ #CPS: That includes everything from affordable housing , a dramatic increase in “community schools”, enforceable caps on class size, mandatory hiring of support personnel written into the contract and more teacher prep time with potential to shorten the school day.

1. Making this tweet once again brought home how difficult it is to use traditional political (science) terminology, like "mainstream" or "anti-system".
2. I use "illiberal" as shorthand for "anti-liberal democracy", i.e. against system of majority rule and minority rights. It includes extremists (anti-democrats) of left and right and, mainly, populists of left and right.

First, my stream art. My art usually starts somehow based on a @streamlabs theme, even if only for inspiration or to make my custom CSS/JS a lot easier to wrangle. The text is usually done w/ custom browser sources. For more info on Streamlabs OBS visit streamlabs.com/slobs/d/103698…
For custom fonts, I override whatever font selection is made via custom CSS. I embed my fonts as base 64 in the CSS thanks to @FontSquirrel's webfont generator. Base 64 seems to perform the best for locally-hosted HTML files with inline CSS even. Probably because no caching.
