There needs to be a solution to the fact that real healthcare reform would be a lot of people in the insurance industry out of a job, but "the people in this industry needs the work" isn't a reason to keep a predatory system. It's like a perverse, inverted form of welfare.
If our society expected people running private industry to have a conscience the way we expect people generally to, it would be a scandal that health insurers have spent their resources blocking reform and not transitioning their businesses gradually over time.
I've got a foot out the door so I can't really get into this, but the thing where we just go "but you can't expect a big company to put people before profits" is wrong, the current state of affairs is artificial as the alternative would be. And such "profits" are short-sighted.
We absolutely could expect better from companies. The fact that we don't is why it seems like we can't.
