This strategic 215-km Zaranj- Delaram highway involved our hard work and blood (literally) as GHQ-ISI- Taliban didn't want this road constructed and constantly attacked it. ITBP and BRO soldiers gave up their life protecting this construction.
129 Afghanis also gave up their life
Nimruz Province of Afghanistan connecting the Delaram District in Afghanistan to the border of Iran. The opposite way goes towards the south near Zaranj, Afghanistan basically increasing our connectivity to Afghanistan through Chabhar port.
The port critical to our interests and to kill CPEC.
Chabahar Port lies in the Persian Gulf and key gateway to the International North-South Transport Corridor that has sea, rail and road routes between India, Russia, Iran, Europe and Central Asia.
It also helped to reduce import cost of oil to India. It also gave access to 4 major cities in Afghanistan — Herat, Kandahar, Kabul and Mazar-e-Sharif
Pranab Mukherjee the then MEA while handling over to the then Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai said "One human sacrifice was made for every kilometre and a half constructed"
Let me add to what ITBP and BRO has gone through in Afghanistan. I humbly salute them
ITBP was deployed across Indian diplomatic outposts in Afghanistan - the Indian embassy and four consulates in Herat, Kandahar, Jalalabad and Mazar-e-Sharif.
ITBP in Afghanistan was allowed only small arms and light weapons not even RPGs by MMS govt even after repeated requests by ITBP. If you remember there was suicide bomb attack in 2008. The Indian embassy in Kabul was attacked by a suicide bomber on the morning of 7 July 2008.
This bombing killed 50+ people including an IFS officer and a brigadier from Indian Army and wounded 100+.
Another attack happened in 2008 - In July 2008, 5 people including two Indian diplomats and two ITBP personnel were killed when a suicide bomber drove a car packed
with explosives to the Indian embassy gates.
In October 2009 another attack happened, a Taliban suicide bomber killed 17 people and injured scores of people in an attack on the Indian embassy in Kabul
On 23 May 2014 just 3 days before Modi govt took over, heavily armed Jihads
attacked the Indian consulate in Herat in western Afghanistan, which was repulsed by the ITBP and ANA. All the 4 Jihadis who attacked were sent to hell by ITBP and ANA with no casualties.
No marks for guessing who planned these attacks-
yes the Haqqani network,
this group which has the training and weapons from GHQ to launch and execute attacks like these.
Now see some interesting patterns on Jan 3 2016 India was not only attacked Pathankot air force base but Indian consulate in city of Mazar-i-Sharif was also attacked.
Do you think this was a coincidence - there are no coincidences period.
Indian Consulate in Jalalabad was attacked 3 times- 2007, 2013 and 2015 and was defended by ITBP and Afghan security forces. Again in July 2018 it was repulsed by ITBP and ANA and 6 Jihadis sent to hell
ITBP has been doing the most thankless, dangerous and superb job in Afghanistan.
Without BRO it would have not been possible for India to have strategic connectivities throughout Afghanistan. In the process several BRO personnel have lost life to Taliban-ISI-GHQ attacks. Apart from Afgh. BRO operates in Bhutan, Myanmar, and Sri Lanka.
My humble salute to them
