Statement from mayor's office on Karygiannis: "This is sudden and shocking news and an unfortunate situation for everyone involved, including the councillor, his office staff, the City Clerk, and the residents he was elected to serve."
I just reached Karygiannis by phone. He said: "There was a clerical error that was a mistake. Something was filed in the wrong column and we’re fighting it and there’s going to be a statement that we’ll be sending out.”
His initial hello didn't identify him, so I said, out of habit, that I was looking for "Councillor Karygiannis" to which he replied: "Former Councillor Karygiannis".

Karygiannis, in a statement, doesn't specifically say he'll be seeking judicial review to be reinstated, but he told me earlier he plans to fight his removal. Under the Municipal Elections Act, there is no built-in appeal mechanism. Only option he has is judicial review
