There is this performative kind of "wokeness" that relies on strange assumptions. None of the Black people I know are eager to be robbed, mugged, raped, shot, burglarized, or molested - not even by fellow Black people. Yes, most of the folks I know support criminal justice reform
Some even support the prison abolition movement, but not that they want murderers and rapists released, they want justice to be rehabilitative and humane, not punitive and cruel. Harris fits into that idea of reform. She was a reformer before there were reformers, advancing ideas
her program to reduce recidivism. That incarceration rates went down every year under Harris is not something these oh-so-woke performance artists would acknowledge. They associate Blackness with criminality, as though Black folks are a cartel in search of impunity
rather than a community under pressure by overpolicing and overcharging making them distrust a system they also need to protect them friom theft and violence.
