For our #SundayMorning thread someone asked me to do a "serious" discussion of Bloomberg running for President. And enough of you upvoted it that here we are.

So I guess I have only one serious question for you.
How much does your vote cost?

(2) Even if you discard the obvious issue that Bloomberg is just another great white centrist, I still struggle with two very critical criticisms of his newly launched campaign.

1: HOW DARE HE
2: WHO THE HELL WANTS ANOTHER NY BILLIONAIRE FOR PRESIDENT?

(3) First off, how dare he saunter into the race at the 11th hour and throw cash around like an elitist jerk.

Bloomberg's strategy of skipping primaries in Iowa, NH, NV, and SC shows a breathtaking disregard for the goodwill of those voters.

(4) Secondly, despite the wishes of Jeff Bezos, most folks aren't super excited to welcome another dude from the billionaire class into the Oval office.

The stench of kleptocracy from the current occupant of the WH is quite enough, thanks.

(5) The person who suggested this thread indicated we should give Bloomberg a chance. After all, his priority is climate change.

Is it though?
If so, Bloomberg's money would be much better spent on energy initiatives instead of political ambitions.

(6) So I have to assume Bloomberg's late entry into this 2020 Presidential race is motivated by something else entirely.

Because the kind of ego it would take to look at our current crop of candidates and think you could do better is sort of astounding.

(7) Some have said Bloomberg appeals to centrists and independents that Democrats haven't locked down.

But if you're genuinely worried that Biden is faltering, what you don't do is move into his lane and start sucking up cash from his donors.

(8) So I'm left with what seems like the most likely motivation. Progressive policies like those embraced by Warren are scaring the pants off the 1% and Bloomberg is prepared to jump in and use his fortune to save their interests.

(9) Bloomberg is a philanthropist with political chops. He's spent lots of cash funding important causes like gun control and climate change.

But we're right to be skeptical about his motives.
And to ask ourselves one question: Can your vote be bought?
