Joe wants to maintain a rare, archaic system that has lead NY to have the second highest wrongful conviction rate in country. A system allowing prosecutors to withhold most evidence *until trial began.* Trial by ambush. Uninformed guilty pleas. Delayed trials. Gross injustice.
The truth: In NY, prosecutors don’t have to turn over most evidence till day of trial. So for the 97% whose cases resolve before trial, they’re making decisions in the dark without seeing much if anything. This will change in less than 2 months:
