So, @cafreeland is going to be deputy PM? What awesome news! I can't imagine anyone more skilled or appropriate for that role. For example, at 7:08 in this episode of As It Happens you can hear how she reached out to a Canadian woman trapped in Iran 1/20

This is the sort of thing we don't hear about, usually. But the simple, human caring that Ms Freeland demonstrates is exactly what we should have in a top and guiding role in government. I am so touched by the empathy and compassion and decency of this. 2/20
What we need in our governments in Canada are good, decent human beings who care deeply about others. People who earnestly want to make a difference. People who have empathy, compassion, and a will to improve lives for even the most vulnerable and disadvantaged. 3/20
And they must also have the wisdom to seek the advice of experts, and look to best practices, rather than letting ideology lead their decisions. They must be willing to subsume their egos and ideologies in the search for the greater good for all. 4/20
When I think upon the conservative parties in this country, I recall how the CPC offered a dying Chuck Cadman a $1M life insurance policy if he would vote to bring down the Liberal government. 5/20

I recall MP James Moore saying hungry children weren't his problem. 6/20

I think of how Harper prorogued parliament to avoid addressing the issue of giving detainees up for TORTURE. 7/20

I think of what Jason Kenney is doing to Alberta. Right off the bat, cutting protection to LGBTQ2S+ youth by making it possible for schools to out students to their parents. 9/20

The UCP cut funding for health care, including nixing a central lab facility and proposing a two-tiered health care system with better services for those with the means to pay. 13/20

I think of the corruption of electoral scandals including the in-and-out scandal, robocalls, illegal financing, and the most recent investigations around how Jason Kenney came to be leader of the UCP. 14/20
An investigation that the UCP seems to have decided to extinguish, simply because they can. 15/20

What Canada needs in our governments, federal and provincial, is people who care about people. Not people who owe deep-pocketed donors. Not people who are driving by ideology. We need good, decent people who care. 16/20
Like Chrystia Freeland. Like many Liberal MPs. Like Rachel Notley. Like many NDP MPs. I dare say many BQ MPs as well. In fact, while I can think of lots of progressive MPs and MLAs across the country who really CARE, I am hard pressed to find a conservative one to point to. 17/20
I'm not saying they don't exist. But they have not been obvious since the Reform party hauled itself out into the open and began to morph into a deeply uncaring, ideological federal presence. 18/20
Contemporary conservative talking points vary little from Republican talking points and causes. Evangelical, far-right, xenophobic, misogynist, and catering to the wealthy donors seems to be the order of the day. 19/20
And that's just not what we need in Canada. We need leaders who care, and who will demonstrate that caring in real, tangible ways. We need governments that work to lift everyone up. We need governments that believe in the public good for all of us. 20/20
