I've updated my timeline with a few of the bombshells from Sondland's earlier testimony and opening statement: impeachment-trump.com

There is no more need to connect dots.

All you really need are points #4 and #5 from his opening statement . . .
This ⤵️combined with his testimony that officials at the highest levels at the State Department were in the loop and knew what was going, on says it all.
I added another bit of new information from the testimony today to my timeline: Laura Cooper just testified Ukrainians may have learned as early as July 25 (the same date as Trump’s call with Zelensky) that there might be a problem with the security aid they was counting on.

Answers:
💠There is no evidence whatsoever that Trump investigated to make sure Zelensky was committed to reform
💠The law does not permit the president to hold back the aid because he has "concerns"

💠Trump specifically mentioned Biden in the 7-25 call.

It seems to me that this defense is undercut by the following:

If Trump sincerely felt he was justified in withholding the aid, there are legal means to do so. The law requires that Congress must be notified.

He went around those legal means.
So it seems to me that Congress anticipated this defense by calling Laura Cooper, who testified about the procedures Trump must follow if he feels aid should be withheld. @SethAbramson
The procedures were explained a few times during the hearings.
@SethAbramson I'll add that these aren't criminal proceedings, so criminal standards (like appropriate level of mens rea, or criminal intent) shouldn't apply.

The only "punishment" is removal from office.
So it's more akin to a civil proceeding in which a person is removed from a job.

On Wednesday the Daily Beast reported that indicted Giuliani associate Lev Parnas helped arrange meetings and calls in Europe for Devin Nunes to help with his “investigations.”

1/ Then on Thurs. came that dramatic moment in Fiona Hill’s testimony when Rep. Swalwell read parts of the Daily Beast article into the record and said Nunes may be a “fact witness if he was working with indicted individuals around our investigation.”
2/ On Friday we learned that Lev Parnas wants to testify before Congress.

What he has to say is this: Last December, Nunes and a few aides went to Vienna and met with Viktor Shokin.

There's a wonderful passage in Gail Godwin's biography of Lincoln (Team of Rivals) in which she talks about how, in the 19th century, politics was of concern to all citizens.

Ok, white male citizens, but still . . .

GORDON SONDLAND is the US ambassador to the European Union. Like Trump, he's a hotel magnate. Before he was appointed to his position was a huge donor to Trump's inaugural committee (to the tune of $1 million!). Prior to that, he donated massively to the GOP.
SONDLAND is considered to be the least credible witness, who was forced to update his private testimony after his recollection of the events around the Ukraine phone call and aid were disputed by *several* people. SONDLAND is the one who touted a quid pro quo! (he disputes this).

1. If the impeachment inquiry is being done inappropriately, why hasn't anyone cited the law or regulation that is being violated?
2. If we're just talking about precedent, is it weird to suddenly pick this one to be concerned with after a decade of smashing them? Should we ask Merrick Garland about it?
3. When during the preliminary investigations that led to Bill Clinton's impeachment was he given the opportunity to defend himself under due process?
