/ Be careful how you interpret this. The wording chosen by @Independent 's Samuel Osborn can lead you to think that Bolsonaro broke up with "right wing PSL" because it's too far to the right. Absolutely not true.

/ This move must be understood both in the context of Bolsonaro's anti-party sadopopulist (fascist) agenda, in which he opposes the party structure itself and claims an equivalency between himself and the country, no parties neeeded ("L'Etat c'est moi")....
/ and in the context of the Brazilian political party system. Like in most countries, Brazil has many parties. Technically speaking, a party is an organization that represents specific interests in the electoral process. That is what makes it possible to negotiate coalitions.
/ In this sense, the American party system is an aberration and both parties have behaved as coalitions. Whether this is good or bad is the wrong type of question. The question is how the party structure shapes democracies.
/ The multiple party system may leave space for the opportunistic creation of "rental parties": they have a loose platform and they are for sale for politicians to use in their electoral arrangements.
/ The PSL, the party by which Bolsonaro was elected, was never significant in the Brazilian public conversation. It was useful for this specific fascist mob (Bolsonaro's) for a while.
/ However, it is a party and for this reason, an anti-party idividual with a lot of power (the president!) created and impossible situation. PSL members are not more or less corrupt than Bolsonaro's mob.
/ Bolsonaro created a party that doesn't even have a party name: "Aliance for Brazil". Aliance to do what? Against what? In favor of what?
/ The last piece of the puzzle is that it resembles the name of the official extremist RW military dictatorship party installed in Brazil with the 1964 Coup: "National Renovation Alliance".
/ Make no mistake: it's an alliance against progress, against the poor, against social policies, against the environment and against minorities. It is an alliance for destruction, corruption and death.
