Because the "we're just concerned about you" assholes have found my dental thread: no one who is fat in this society is unaware that weight impacts the efficacy of drugs. We know it damn well. We can drink more than you, but hey! Does our birth control work? It's a guessing game!
(And the line for "fat" in a medical context is so much lower than it has any rational reason to be. Because we needed one more reason to fear and distrust doctors.)
Fatphobia in a medical context kills. Both because doctors ignore or misdiagnose symptoms, missing cancer, fibrous tumors, auto-immune conditions, conditions that CAUSE weight gain, in favor of focusing on "let's work on your weight"...
...and because after a LIFETIME of being treated as sub-human, in the rare instance where the health issue really is caused by, not causing, weight gain, or exacerbated by same, it's hard to believe it.
If every time something in your house breaks, your kid (or niece, or nephew) says evil trolls did it, will you be prepared when the evil trolls show up? Or will you cry "bullshit" and not believe they exist, since you know for a fact that they're blamed for things they didn't do?
So yeah. I know that nitrous and other dental sedatives are impacted by weight. I also know--down to the ounce--how much I weigh, because I'm currently enrolled in Weight Watchers for medical reasons.
There is less of me, right now, than there has been in years, and I dislike celebrating "there is less Seanan existing in the world" as if it were a victory. But I know what I weigh, and I told the dentist, TO THE OUNCE, what I weigh.
If they were able to give me enough gas when I was +25lbs. from where I am right now, they could have given me the service I paid for, not traumatized me more. Implying otherwise is an attempt to shame me and side with them.
Fat people, regardless of their degree of fatness, deserve to get the medical care they pay for and are promised just as much as thin people do.
