Netflix's data-driven penchant for running a show for three seasons and then cancel it (because the earlier seasons get the most views) is bound to backfire if they get a reputation for pumping out content and dumping it when people get hooked.
An interesting use of this insight would be to develop more things that work as standalone limited serieses, or that are designed with a three season scale from the beginning.
I wonder if they've ever drilled down in the data to see if it might be true that while The Audience is more likely to watch the first few seasons, most audience members who watch episodic television have specific shows they watch all the way through.
Imagine running a restaurant with a business insight like "Our data suggests people don't actually like food. For every dish on our menu, there are more people who try it once or twice than order it every time."
