China's Xinjiang policies are deliberately misframed as a binary between "freedom" and "oppression". The actual binary positions is state enforced secularism vs ethnic cleansing. Every majority Muslim state sees it's ethno-religious minorities gradually attritted and inevitably
destroyed. Muslims don't even need absolute numerical superiority, just localized majorities before life becomes difficult for non-muslims. The responses are either surrender and move away, or fight back with equal communitarian savagery, as is the case of Burma. Either way, one
party in the conflict gets purged. There is no peaceful multicultural paradise that was ever possible once Islamic sectarianism comes into play. You either strangle the social seeds from which it sprouts or you are forced to mow down the future weeds en masse. Islam in China will
survive but not in it's present "reformist" iteration that functions as a social agitation group but rather like the individualist personal faiths of Western protestantism. Uighurs will just have to learn to worship like Anglicans or else get used to extended gulag vacations.
