China's system of domestic repression is similar to that which the West is gradually lurching towards to, but perfected. The main difference is in who is in the driver's seat and the desired objective. The arbitrary censorship and restrictions on counter narratives is similar.
As is the use of auxiliary volunteer enforcement. The main behavioral difference is that overt blocking is used in China's case, because of Western Media power which is not yet required in the West because the US media is hegemonic. The goals however could not be further apart.
Earrings on men? Banned. Crazy coloured hair? Banned. Globohomo? Banned. MeToo? Banned. BN emulation? Banned. What the Communist Party wants are wholesome pro family, pro state, pro social behaviors to flourish. Anything judged not conducive to this is erased. The unstated goals
of Western governments as exemplified by the US don't need further explanation. Whether Westerners conditioned as they are to Liberalisms sanctification of process over goal view this tradeoff as acceptable is not for me to judge. What I can say is that forces at work obviously
do not hold to the same standard and will not hobble themselves to achieve their desired end game.
