Does the news media have a duty to report to the public serious allegations that are brought to their attention by members of the public?

They certainly feel a duty to print unfounded & false allegations that are brought to them by Rudy Giuliani & others of a certain 'class.'
A member of the public brought forward allegations from a member of her family that he had been sexually abused by a former Speaker of the House.

It was ignored - until 10 years later, federal charges referencing a similar crime were made public.
A member of the public came forward with allegations that she had been directly sexually abused by a candidate for President - and made the same claims under penalty of perjury, in a court of law.

Those claims were never treated with even a modicum of sincerity by the media...
So the media feels the need to publish even the most spurious of claims from someone who *once* had credibility....

What does that say about those who are victimized by those with wealth and power?
Does freedom of the press extend only to the owners of the presses - to those who profit from what the publications produce?

Or does freedom of the press belong to the people?
TBC - there's a a lot of shit that the Bill of Rights glossed over.

Namely, they left out the Citizens' Bill of Responsibilities.
There are no rights without concomitant responsibilities.

There is no liberty without honor and responsibility towards your fellow citizens.

There is no honor without respect.
There is no freedom without duty.
Preserving freedom? It requires all of the above.

Your freedom ends where it impinges on the liberties of any other citizen.
And for that reason, if you can publish Giuliani's claims, you should be responsible for the furtherance of any criminal enterprise, and for the subsequent related criminal acts of any individuals you failed to report when reasonable accusations were alleged to you in the past.
IOW, if you were given the opportunity to make known credible, sworn allegations made against individuals with power - especially by those with no power, or against those running for elected office, you become complicit in any future crimes that individual commits -
both to silence any prior victims, or for any new victims they have been enabled to prey upon by your choice to restrict the freedom of "your" press.

Merry Christmas!
