So, according to Global TV's @MercedesGlobal who broke the story:
(1) The directors of the Conservative Fund knew about the top-up fund their party' executive director approved for Andrew Scheer, which is quite common for party leaders in all parties.
(2) Scheer, with the executive director's permission, chose to use some of that money tp pay for private school tuition for his children.
(3) Scheer did not break any rules within the party for doing what he did.
(4) The objection of the Fund directors is that while they knew about the top up fund to Scheer, they didn't know he was using it to pay for the tuition of his children which they're furious about not because he broke any rules but because of the optics.
(5) While I can certainly understand that contributors to the Conservative Party object to this sort of spending and have every right to be angry about it, IMO the Conservative Party doesn't have a leg to stand on in attacking Scheer.
(a) The party approved the funding & the amount.
(b) Scheer followed the rules.
(c) The "fury" of the directors isn't about Scheer receiving the money, it's about how he spent it (or some of it).
(d) The Conservatives made similar top up arrangements for previous party leaders.
Way to go Conservative Party! And nice move throwing Scheer's kids to the wolves. It should be real fun for them in the schoolyard now.
