Reminder: tonight is the deadline for open enrollment - that time of the year we are reminded of how amazing “choice” is in our insurance system (😂).

For today, get insured if you can at healthcare.gov

For tomorrow, end healthcare profiteering with #MedicareForAll.
For those who can’t afford it, I feel you. I went uninsured for years bc I made “too much” for a subsidy, but couldn’t afford ~$200/mo for a $7000 deductible.

A coworker went through her entire pregnancy uninsured.That nightmare is a major reason why I fight for #MedicareForAll.
And to our constituents in NY - you have until Jan 31st to enroll, but tonight is the deadline for your insurance to kick in on 1/1!

The Census is how funding for programs is determined.

To your 1st Q: We count how many people are in a community to know how much $ to give schools, housing, hospitals, etc.

If you don’t fill the Census, then planners believe people live in a community than reality &fund less.
2) Race is a question because the Census is also used as publicly funded research tool, as well. It helps experts answer lots of questions about health and income disparities, like the racial wealth gap, or assist with public health data.

What is happening in Puerto Rico is horrifying.

From withholding relief aid to local & federal corruption, there is a lack of accountability, rooted in colonial status, that’s costing people their lives.

It’s dehumanizing, unjust, & exhausting. It’s personal. I’ve lost family.
On the fed level, the colonial status of the island means that the gov makes decisions for millions who lack voting power - administration w/o representation.

Too often, that means it’s up to a handful of members who are willing to take up PR as our unofficial 2nd district. /2
.@NydiaVelazquez is leading on getting the hospital in Vieques rebuilt.

I spent much of last year securing cleanup funds for those getting cancer from fmr US bombing. CHC hounds FEMA on recovery.

But the difficulty in Congress stays in colonial status.

I don’t understand why some folks run as if the internet doesn’t exist.

Joe Biden helped sell the invasion of Iraq and spent years working to cut social security, Medicare, and Medicaid. He’s open to a Republican running mate.

Spin it however you want, but those are the facts.
And before folks jump in saying I’m wrong or that it’s more complicated than that, let me give you the receipts.

For 15 years I’ve taught units on media regulation, mostly as a historical overview that spans the Wireless Ship Act of 1910 to the 1996 Telecomm Act. Every time I teach it, I’m reminded of how we could’ve had a media system so much better than the one we’ve got. (1/5)

#Healthcare is a fundamental human right. In 2018, our legislature helped to ensure that right by expanding Medicaid. As of today, nearly 250K Virginians have enrolled in the program and now have access to quality healthcare.
This is what happens when we elect Democrats who are tenacious and unwilling to accept the status quo. But we still have work to do. We still have an opioid epidemic that is devastating communities and major improvements that need to be made to our mental health care system.
Last week, I was happy to visit one of our local facilities and have a great discussion with physicians and staff about these issues; we even tackled the benefits of community health.

So some shit went down for me personally at the end of 2018. First, let me just say I'm old. I'm not old-old - sorry to anyone in their 80s but that's my definition of old-old these days. I am 48, so I'm Perimenopause old
so the "shit that went down" as I turned the page on 2018 is what began my #AdventuresInPerimenopause, aka the worst medical experience of my life...and I had my ankle surgically reconstructed w/no pain meds when I was 4 months pregnant
a few months before "shit went down" I had finally began to lose some of the 50lbs of extra weight that's been, well a weight, on me for a year. I was on a program, thinking about exercise - that's step 1, right? - and had safely dropped 15 lbs in 2 weeks

We have to pay cash or not go + $700 per person PENALTY on taxes!
I had insurance, could afford my healthcare my whole life. Why complain? The democrats destroyed it! Obama lied about how many didn't have "health care". It's MORE now. It's was never healthcare. It was an insurance scam.
There was never a health CARE problem. There was a COST problem.
Cost of giving "free" stuff to those who had no accountability for it was the CAUSE of the problems. It began with medicaid/medicare.
We were giving it to people who were illegal aliens as well as the poor.
