You can debate whether the term Islamophobia is the right term.

Personally I believe the term anti-Muslim hatred is much better as for me bigotry towards Muslims is better explained as a vile hate. /1

However what is wrong and what this column does is ignore the growing hatred towards Muslims. That is what the term Islamophobia means to many.

Melanie is not arguing about the word.

She is arguing with the fact that rising hatred towards Muslims is not a thing. /2

That hatred towards towards Muslims is not as bad towards hatred towards Jews.

Not only does she downplay the vile bigotry Muslims face as @TellMamaUK highlights, she divides Jews and Muslims making it seen that hatred towards Jews matters more than hatred towards Muslims./3

Hate is hate end of story. One form of hate is not better or worse than the other.

They are all terrible and should be equally condemned.

Jews and Muslims face rising hatred and we need to work together not demonise each other.

Hate against Muslims sadly exists. /4

There is a problem of Antisemitism in the Muslim community. I don't deny it.

@MAAS_UK works against hatred inside both outside and inside the Muslim community.

The difference is unlike Melanie I realise that is due to Islamist extremists not the vast majority of Muslims. /5

I have spent time in the hateful Corbynite groups she mentioned and others. The worst comments I saw did not in the main come from Muslims they came from white people.

Does that mean we should stereotype white people as Antisemitic? No. /6

What it does mean is that Antisemitism is a problem across the board on the far left, far right and in communities across the UK, just as anti-Muslim hate is. /7

The impression the article gives is that if you are concerned about rising hate in what I call anti-Muslim hatred and others call Islamophobia you are liable to be anti Jewish.

That is utter codswallop.

Look at people like Fiyaz Mughal of @FaithMattersUK /8

He spoke at the #TogetherAgainsrAntisemitism rally and condems hate towards Muslims and Jews and Islamist extremism.

Then there are groups like @nisanashim who bring Muslims and Jews together.

Or how about @Asmaa96388862 who used the experience of the hate she experienced /8

To stand up for a Jewish family.

Melanie has form dividing Jews and Muslims, spitting in the face of Muslim allies against Antisemitism such as @MAAS_UK and @n_Horizons, whilst paints Muslims as Jews enemies. /9

Melanie has a track record of bigoted articles about Muslims.

Just recently on the pages of @thetimes she promoted the taqqiya lie to smear Muslims.

She's been ignoring anti muslim hatred for years and does this yet again in @JewishChron. /11

Now the JC should be allowed to employ her, after all they are a private company and I believe in a free press.

They should be allowed to have her vile on their pages.

I though think it's a massive mistak to let the oldest Jewish newspaper be allowed to be turned into. /12

A purveyor of hate through her monthly columns.

It will promote division between Jews and Muslims.

The fight against Antisemitism is not won through anti-Muslim hatred. It is won through working with allies against Antisemitism, Jewish & non-Jewish, including Muslim allies. /13

I urge @JewishChron to think again. Do you want your columns to be polluted by hate?

Do you not think at least there should be a response to the hateful columns of Ms Phillips, including her most recent one?

At very least I'm happy to write an op ed condemning her views. /14
