There’s been a lot of post election ink spilled on what happened to Labour in in its heartlands and what those voters think. Just as well to hear it from them directly. Here’s a piece I made with @LouisDegenhardt from Northfield a week before polling day.
It was here we were pretty sure Labour were in serious trouble. For comparison, I went to exactly the same place for Labour in 2017 and the reception was much better and I knew the party would do much better than thought.
If we thought things were bad for Labour in Birmingham, it was nothing compared to a few days later when we went to Leigh. Same thing. You don’t need the post match analysis about what these voters thought. Hear it for yourself.
