Since the $500m proposed investment in NTA, I read several articles about digital broadcast and the switch from analogue to Digital broadcast.

I read a lot, the internet is my library and my phone connects to several materials online.
The quality of engagement on Naija twitter is poor especially on issues that requires research and deep knowledge. Most people tweet from their uninformed perspective.

I expect people with vast knowledge in media and digital broadcasting to provide a detailed cost analysis..
The socio economic impact of NTA not switching to digital broadcast, the infrastructure cost, equipment and personnel cost of digital transmission.

Startimes has invested $200m in Nigeria. A transmission tower costs $1.8m, procurement of decoders etc. DTT..
Can NTA become self sufficient with the right investment? Yes..

With digital broadcast and proper management, picture and sound quality will be better and the station will attract digital contents and partners. Kenya TV runs on advert fees.

No TV station can beat NTA on advert
Everybody including local and international organizations will jump on their reach in 36 states and the opportunity to advertise and push content in 100 local dialects in Nigeria.

The socio economic impact of disseminating information to Nigerians in their native dialect..
Do you think the people in the village listen to the big grammar spoken by your favorite OAPs on TV..

How do we eradicate socio economic issues if we cannot reach the masses? Child marriage, health promotion, terrorism, banditry, population control, crime, policies..
Law and order, government policies and bills..
How many people in the rural areas can explain the FG budget or policy on education?

How many times have you seen programs on private TV stations targeted at the rural communities?

Educational programs like tales by moonlight..
Adverts on child spacing, health seeking behaviors and social ills.

I don't have the full details of the cost analysis but I can say here from the little I have read that digital broadcast is capital intensive and requires a lot of money.
All analogue equipment in every NTA station will have to be replaced..spectrum management, training and capacity building..etc.

The Kenyan TV market revenue is expected to hit $400m by 2023 following the switch from analogue to digital broadcast.

Is NTA worth the money?
