He was successful because, three years since June 2016, many people simply wanted to get Brexit done. His opponents, as predicted, remain divided. 2/
Johnson now has responsibility to deliver Brexit. Cakeism no longer cuts it. Hard choices lie ahead; with strong pulls, both towards, and away from, the EU. He will be responsible for the impact his choices will have, incl in areas which have lent him their trust and votes. 3/
The opposition can no longer influence the course of Brexit. They need to regroup, and unite to oppose Johnson. They should be relentless in pointing out the flaws in Johnson's Brexit, and its likely impact. 4/
Without Brexit, X would have been avoided. With a better managed Brexit, Y would not have occurred. The effects will be economic, political, social, constitutional... and they will be Johnson's doing. 5/
The year ahead looks like it will be rocky. Johnson will be desperate to avoid scrutiny, and will look to move beyond Brexit. But, for better or worse, I rather think Brexit will continue to dominate. 6/6
