The BMG poll suggests that his economic agenda and his stance on national security issues were both particularly unpopular.

The poll found that voters want Labour to shift towards the centre ground will cause problems for leadership hopefuls, given that the party base is likely to demand the next leader promises to continue much of Mr Corbyn’s left-wing agenda.

There is much in this poll to suggest that it is the membership as much as the leadership who are responsible for the mess the party is in.

They are unable to process that their choices are not very likely to win the broad appeal needed to be opposition ready.

Even those who voted Labour in GE19 think that in the defence and sexurity arena Labour needs to change direction, and several other policies only marginally more than 50% of that group found them popular.

Sir Keir (on 16%) is the most popular amongst Labour voters with Jess Phillips 5 points behind, and Cooper 9 points behinds.

Long Bailey just won 2%

Cooper is marginally more popular than Starmer amongst Tory voters. Their votes are goi g to be needed in an election.

Voter recognition of potentials in the leadership contest was low, with Cooper, Thornberry, Starmer most recognised at 50% or above.

Lammy on 48%.

Nandy only on 28% and Clive Lewis on 23%
