On this day 10 years ago, Bordeaux were clear at the top of Ligue 1, heading for their second straight title, and getting ready to play the CL knockouts having topped a group with Bayern and Juve. It's been downhill ever since. A thread of Girondins de Bordeaux's banter decade:
March 2010: Our 8 point lead at the top of the table starts to slip, meanwhile we lose the League Cup final convincingly to Marseille
April 2010: Things get spectacularly bad as we lose five times in the league to the likes of Le Mans and Lorient, blow the title and get knocked out of the Champions League against Lyon due to dubious refereeing
May 2010: We round off the campaign with one of the worst 2nd halves of a season in recent memory while playmaker Yoann Gourcuff sits out the last few games to 'keep himself fit for the World Cup', a tournament where he would famously be bullied by half the squad
May 2010: Laurent Blanc leaves to manage the national team after blowing the club's money. Club legend Jean Tigana takes his place and ends his reign one year later after a 4-0 defeat to Sochaux
August 2010: We sell generational talent and 'New Zidane' Gourcuff to rivals Lyon and replace him with Fahid ben Khalfallah (1 league goal in 3 and a half years)
August 2010: Striker Moussa Maazou signs on loan from CSKA Moscow, playing half a season and scoring one goal before being sent back in January after saying he 'doesn't give a shit' and that he would be playing in the CL with Moscow next season anyway
Summer 2011+2012: We follow up free transfers-only summer with a summer without any signings. Manager Francis Gillot performs a miracle and gets us into Europe
May 2013: Legendary striker Cheick Diabaté leads us to a French Cup win against relegated Evian, who in a classic case of nominative determinism would go on to be liquidated a few years later
October 2013: Serge the Llama is abducted from a Bordeaux circus and rides around the city on a tram. A week later, we parade him around the stadium before losing 3-0 to Nantes
January 2014: We enter the French cup as holders and promptly get knocked out by 4th tier side l'Ile Rousse on penalties
May 2014: Zinedine Zidane inexplicably turns down the chance to manage Bordeaux, so we turn to Willy Sagnol instead. Since then, Zidane has won 3 Champions League titles and Sagnol got a job as a pundit
November 2014: Sagnol declares that "the good thing about African players is that they are cheap and strong. But you also need Nordics as they have a good mentality". No comment
March 2016: Sagnol finally leaves with the club languishing in 15th place. Season highlights include a 6-1 defeat to Ben Arfa's Nice and a 4-1 home loss to Caen, among other spankings
May 2016: André Poko is sacked by the club after filming himself smoking shisha wearing a Marseille shirt
Outgoing club president Jean-Louis Triaud ends his goodbye speech by lighting up some pyro and 'smoking' it, cementing his cult status
We somehow convince Arsenal to buy back Wellington Silva so they can sell him to us. He arrives in Bordeaux with a deal in place and proceeds to fail his medical, so we send him back to them
August 2017: In a new high for the club, Hungarian side Videoton knock us out of the Europa League qualifiers. The second leg sees us fail to put a shot on target
August 2017: Manager Jocelyn Gourvennec turns down the opportunity to sign Luuk de Jong because of 'tactical imcompatibilities', instead spending 10m euros on Nicolas de Préville who scores 4 league goals that season
January 2018: We're drawn against 4th tier Granville in the French cup - a great opportunity for Gourvennec to play the first team and get the confidence back up. We lose 2-1 and finish the game with 8 men
January 2018: This is where things get spicy - Gourvennec is duly sacked after a disastrous start to the season sees us lying just above the relegation zone. Captain Jérémy Toulalan then terminates his contract out of protest
February 2018: Renowned nutcase Gustavo Poyet is hired and out of nowhere sneaks us into a Europa qualifying spot after effectively lighting a fire under the players' asses
July 2018: Brazilian winger Malcom and his agent board a plane to Italy to finalise a move to Roma. While the plane is in the air, Bordeaux turn around and accept an offer from Barcelona all the while Roma fans wait for him at the airport. A masterclass from our board
August 2018: Poyet, having been assured by the club he'd get recruits at the end of the previous season, starts midfielder Younousse Sankharé in the Europa qualifier against Ventspils to make a point about his lack of strikers
August 2018: Poyet names striker Gaetan Laborde in his squad for the second leg, only to find out just before the game he'd been sold to Montpellier, despite specifically telling the board not to
August 2018: Unsurprisingly, Poyet snaps and in his post match presser calls the club a 'disgrace' and that the board don't have the 'cojones' to tell him the truth. As the press officer wraps it up, he cuts her off: 'I decide when this it ends, not you'
August 2018: Poyet is sacked the next morning and in true French style the players go on strike in training in support of him
August 2018: The new American owners court Thierry Henry as new manager before opting for club physio Eric Bedouet
September 2018: We bring back former manager Ricardo to take charge only to have his application for a manager's permit turned down by the French managers' syndicate. Bedouet stays on the bench until February
September 2018: Amateur hour as we submit our Europa League squad, forgetting to add summer signing Toma Basic
November 2018: The club is finally sold to American investors, the hold up being the main reason why we were the only club in the top 5 leagues to have not signed anyone by August. Meanwhile former owners M6 take off with the Malcom money
December 2018: New president Joe daGrosa promises 80 million spent over three years to get the club back into the Champions League (summer 2019 total spend: seven million)
March 2019: Midfielder Younousse Sankharé is ruled out of action for several weeks due to beard implant complications
August 2019: Bordeaux's media team put the nail in the coffin of Laurent Koscielny's Arsenal reputation with this announcement video:

December 2019: Fans invade the pitch in a home game against Nimes to protest against the ownership. The game restarts and we score six, including a hat trick from Netflix sensation Josh Maja
Autumn 2019: DaGrosa's GACP try to find a new partner to buy out majority shareholder King Street's stake, meanwhile King Street themselves are trying to buy out GACP's stake. Hilarity ensues
December 2019: King Street eventually take full control and Joe DaGrosa is forced to leave just months after promising a return to the Champions League. The club sits in 13th in Ligue 1
I’ve missed out on a fair bit but those are the essential highlights in a not so successful decade
