Something monumental in American politics happened today. The candidate talking about Medicare For All with the most frequency & passion (@BernieSanders) just collected support from the largest coalition of voters in history. This officially shatters a misguided media myth. (1/8)
The Beltway media keeps missing Medicare For All’s immense popularity, even claiming that it’s harmful to support. They were always wrong - but now there’s demonstrable proof. It will be interesting to see if they continue to say it, in the face of this news. (2/8)
Sanders’ campaign just announced he has a record 5 million overall donors (and 300,000 just this quarter) -- largely working people most hurt by the current healthcare system. Workers at places like Amazon, Walmart, Starbucks, and Target. This tells you something. (3/8)
Many pundits are well off & don’t see how devastating the health care status quo is for millions, who are dying and going bankrupt because of it. Today’s news (plus the fact that 2 of voters’ top 3 candidates support M4A) proves there’s huge demand for a new health system. (4/8)
This announcement isn’t the only thing that shatters the media narrative on Medicare For All. There is also a huge groundswell of support for it. A recent NY Times poll showed that 81% of Dems and 64% of Independents support it -- a majority of Americans overall. (5/8)
Now, none of this would be persuasive if Bernie had stopped talking about M4A. But the opposite is true. In the last debate, he pushed it forcefully: ”We are the only major country on Earth not to guarantee health care for all people, which is why we need Medicare for all.” (6/8)
In fact, Sanders has been *on offense* on the issue. Last week in Iowa: “How much does the public option cost? What's the number exactly? The current system, which [Biden & Buttigieg] are defending, with minor tweaks, is far and away the most expensive system in the world." (7/8)
In conclusion: Don’t let the healthcare industry or its favored candidates fool you: Medicare for All isn’t just necessary to save lives -- it’s a huge political winner, especially among Democrats in 2020. 5 million small donors and $35 million last quarter alone proves it. (8/8)
