... Given UK about to sail solo in middle of acute global trade tensions, simultaneously negotiate, new relationship with EU/ US & others, which are interrelated/ conditional on one another - surely would be number one field of expertise in any strategic reboot of UK state ...

trade stance is also material in terms of where how you place new government capital investment - is there an overall strategy? will it just happen to go to the blue bricks in red wall? How much does his No 10 really want a US deal, enough to short term disrupt trade with EU?...

The reference to Bridgewater, I think is a reference to Ray Dalio, and his economic framework that everything is determined by the short & long credit cycle/ printing money, and then longer term productivity growth. for the latter - big spend on R&D.

Mild irony though, given everything is about physics of prediction, that Bridgwater flagship fund failed to predict central banks lowering rates and further record lows in gov bond yields & was uncharacteristically down..

In terms of method - makes sense to recruit best bright expansive minds in to one place. Example of places in UK - such as Manchester -that have actively been transformed to a plan with judicious use of state & private sector -required small group of visionaries acting decisively
