I’m at the WZCC (World Zarathusti Chamber of Commerce) Annual General Meeting in Lonavala India and we just had a real treat: @Ashdindoc spoke to us for 30 minutes about how to creat new habits to live an awesome life.

Here are some key takeaways.
First of all, when you want to change a habit (or start a new one!) you have to think about the intention. A strong enough WHY will give you the motivation to try and start.

Second, don’t bite off more than you can chew! Focus on small, tiny actions.
There are three golden rules to habit change:
1) make the change very small (as tiny as possible!)
2) make it so easy that you feel stupid if you don’t do it
3) don’t give up if your miss one day, but never miss two days in a row
One thing I personally want to do is to go to sleep earlier. I’ve decided that an initial habit to change will be that I take off my contact lenses and switch to glasses at 8pm every night. This seems silly and easy, and that’s exactly why it will be a good first step for me.
Ashdin also told us that wellness is all about managing our energy. Did you know that humans have four types of energy? It’s true! We have
Physical energy
Intellectual energy
Emotional energy
Spiritual energy

PIES for short. So how do we change habits to increase wellness?
If we think about energy in terms of tanks, we have four different tanks: physical, intellectual, emotional and spiritual.

As important as it is to fill our different tanks, we also need to plug the holes that are draining the tanks. And the holes are important to fix first!
Physical energy

Drains: eating the wrong type of food, sitting for too long, bad posture, shallow breathing, and dehydration.

Energy comes from fasting, making sure to move for 3 minutes every hour, and doing some kind of high-intensity activity (even bouncing on your heels 😊)
Intellectual energy

Drains: arguing, deadlines, trying to multitask, worrying that we’re not doing enough

Energy comes from doing creative work in the morning, taking breaks frequently, only checking emails a few times a day (turn off those notifications!) and creative thinking
Emotional energy (pt 1)

HALF of our overall stress comes from emotions. We tend to try to push them down, but that compounds rather than alleviates the stress.

We have 65 emotions but most people can’t name more than 10-15. We have to NAME & FEEL our emotions to overcome them.
Emotional energy (pt 2)

Drains: things that are out of our control, fighting, social media especially Instagram, phones, alcohol, drama, fear of failure, FOMO, and “emotional vampires” 🧛🏽‍♂️

Energy comes from having deep conversations, feeling solitude, and practicing gratitude.
Spiritual energy

Drains: lack of nature, feeling purposeless

Energy comes from spending time in nature, finding and feeling a sense of purpose, compassion, and graceful acceptance.
So now that you are armed with this knowledge, which habits will you try to adopt to increase your wellness?
