“2019 was a metaphorical 1814; the year Washington, D.C. burned itself to the ground. Worse yet, none of the arsonists have been charged. With that...in mind, it is not just appropriate but necessary to question what comes next.” Re Tucker vs Trump: amgreatness.com/2020/01/06/rea…
“Recent history—as recent as a few months ago—provides plenty of reasons why we should doubt an intelligence apparatus working to sabotage Trump’s presidency. This is the same IC that got us into these international debacles and has kept us there at tremendous cost.”
Tucker might be wrong about the rationale for Soleimani’s killing. But he is asking necessary questions. The US moved troops out of Syria...and into Iraq a few months ago. That’s going in the wrong direction. Twenty servicemen died in Afghanistan in 2019. Why?
The administration’s rhetoric about imminent threats and regime change should raise red flags. It’s one thing to punish an American-killing terrorist like Soleimani; it’s quite another to use well-worn slogans from failed engagements of the past to justify more action.
No, I’m not an expert. I’m a former neocon who feels burned, betrayed and guilty for boosting—without skepticism—what we’ve done in the ME over the past two decades at unimaginable cost. As I write here, I won’t be fooled again amgreatness.com/2020/01/06/rea…
Comments by Pompeo, the smugness of folks like Ben Sasse, and yes, the cheers from the neocon ranks like Bolton don’t instill confidence. DoD Sec Esper already had to clarify yesterday that the administration has no plans to leave Iraq. Again, why not?
