Re: observing effort/output/outcome/impact. Here's a concrete comparison of tweets, blogs, and videos.

Effort (time invested per item)
* Tweet--5 minutes
* Blog--2 hours
* Video--1 hour

Output (what I produced across the last quarter)
* Tweet--44
* Blog--5
* Video--7

Outcome (value readers derived across the last quarter)
* Tweet--3M impressions, 3K retweets, 10K likes, 600 replies
* Blog--112K views, 52K reads, 3500 hours read time, 1200 fans
* Video--16K views, 750 hours watch time, 500 likes

Impact (value flowing back to me)
* Tweet--$0
* Blog--$0
* Video--$0

Observations:
* It's really hard to measure outcome for a content business. Read/watch time is my best proxy, but it ignores what people actually then *do* with the information.

* No monetary impact is not ideal for me but I don't see an alternative. It provides me with no incentive to keep producing.
* I could also observe impact (in the sense of value flowing back to me) as attention and feedback, but those are hard to measure.
