Trump has now threatened major force five times - Iran x 2, N Korea, Syria, and Venezuela - and blinked every time. For someone who’s whole schtick is boasting about how ‘strong’ he is and what an apology tour wimp Obama was, he’s actually turning out to be quite the paper tiger
2/ Please don’t read this to mean that I want Trump to start these wars. He should not; all would be catastrophes. Rather I’m just pointing out that Trump makes lots of violent threats but doesn’t act on them. He speaks loudly and carries a small stick. Given that his voters
3/ love his whole ‘kick the s* out of them’ foreign policy posturing, you’d think they’d notice by now that he’s not actually doing that. I figure there are 2 reasons: 1) He knows that the country doesn’t want another war, despite all the belligerent machismo of right-wing media.
4/ A new war would badly hurt Trump’s re-election effort. 2) Trump is grossly incompetent, and a war would show that decisively. Trump is in way over his head. He knows he’s a faker who shouldn’t be POTUS. Being unmasked as a fraud in full view of everyone is his greatest fear. A
5/ A war would do that immediately and vividly. So if you’re an American opponent, you have to worry about sanctions and drone strikes and other asymmetric tools, but not a war. END
