CORRUPTION IN MISSISSIPPI JAIL!Hello, my name is Kaylan Kidd. I was arrested for a Section 3-8 Violation (open container) in Vicksburg, MS on Sunday April 28 2019 around 3:43pm. The Vicksburg Police Department then transported me to Madison County Detention Center.

Madison County Detention Center is located in Canton, MS roughly 70 miles east of where I live. The Correctional officers met me with vulgarities, taunts, homophobic slurs, etc. Immediately, they, the correctional officers, took my glasses from me due to them being metal.

This further hindered me from performing simple tasks because I am “legally blind.” I was compliant and did everything that was required of me to the best of my abilities with this disadvantage.

Next, I was rough housed to the shower and ordered to strip naked, bend over, hold my rump open and cough three times, “if I could count that high.” I was then required to do this multiple times because
“homosexuals are known for bringing in contraband into the jail.” 😒

I took a cold shower after I passed the “contraband prerequisite.” The
correctional officers snatched, yanked, and pulled me every way that they could. Note: I am 5’6” roughly 140lbs 🤷🏾‍♂️ So I’m “petite” for a man.

When they finally felt as if they could NOT provoke me to retaliate, they finally shoved me into a holding "tank." After that, I attempted to commit suicide by putting my head into the commode and inhaling! 😞

The guards rushed in and snatched my head from out of the commode, stood me up, and proceeded to ram my head viciously into the cement wall breaking my front teeth & splitting my lip in half. Blood & water went everywhere!!

Once they slammed me onto the ground, an officer took his foot (or knee) and placed it on my head cracking one of my molars and they handcuffed me. Note: I NEVER fought back, nor resisted. I knew that if I did, matters would only get worse!

The officers snatched me up from off the ground and dragged to the Medical Room in the facility leaving a trail of blood behind us. After slipping on my own blood a few times, I finally fell.

While on the ground, still bleeding, one of the guards checked my pulse and stated that they “hoped I wasn’t dead.” Once we made it to “medical,” the nurse said to take me to the E.R. IMMEDIATELY due to her not being able to help because of the severity of my injuries.

The only thing that she could do was check my blood pressure. I am sure that you know, at this point, I am STILL bleeding profusely. They then, BEFORE TAKING ME TO THE E.R., made me take another shower to wash the majority of the blood off me.

If anything, taking a cold shower made it worse. The guards rushed me out of the shower only to tell me to hurry and put on my clothes. Naked, terrified, and still bleeding, I WAS still in a state of shock.

So, they were handing me clothes to put on and I was trying to put on shirt as if they were pants because I was just trying to do what I was told as quickly as possible. Note: I am “legally blind” & I was very shaken up!

After the guards kept yelling for me to hurry up, I wailed, “You broke my teeth.” One guard’s response was, “Do you want me to break your fucking nose too?!”

When I finally put on the clothes, with my body still wet, and my mouth still bleeding, I was driven to Merit Health Madison where the nurse cleaned the tooth fragments from my mouth and stitched my lip together.

(Kaylan M. Kidd Acct# 2508755 MRN# 0000407400) just in case they LIE and say that this never happened. Once I was transported back to the facility, they booked me. YES, ALL OF THIS OCCURRED BEFORE I WAS EVEN BOOKED!!!

The lady who booked me told me that I could file a report, but never made any effort in assisting me to do so. The very same guard who was the “ring leader” of this mess took me to the “Suicide Watch Holding Cells.”

There, I repeatedly inquired about writing a statement. I had no luck whatsoever. After speaking with the female correctional officers, she told me that I could file a report ONLY AFTER I had seen the Psychiatrist.

The Psychiatrist also had to release me into “general population” before a report could be filed. This was new to me! After that, Every guard that I asked simply said “someone will come talk to you” or “someone will get back with you.”

On Wednesday, May 1, 2019, I was informed that I would be released from Madison County Detention Center. I inquired AGAIN about me filing a report before leaving and my request was ignored!

Upon being set free by the judge for paying my debt to society, I tried to file an report with my local police department. After I received the “run-around” from them, I went to city hall and spoke with Mayor George Flaggs Jr. who informed me on how I should handle this situation

I, IMMEDIATELY, WENT BACK DOWN TO THE POLICE STATION TO DO EXACTLY AS HE INSTRUCTED ME TO DO ONLY TO BE MET WITH THE RUN AROUND! The receptionist told me that the gentleman that I was looking for was not in. I asked whether I could make an appointment and she abruptly said “no.”

She told me that I would “have to catch him when he is around because you can’t make an appointment.” 😒

I am speaking out on the injustice that goes on under MDOC (Mississippi Department of Corrections) watch! They are RACIST! They KILL INMATES to cover their tracks!

Not only that, this facility has yet to answer for the DEATHS of countless others who have come before me! I am speaking out as a SURVIVOR!

To this day, I STILL have nightmares about this incident! I attend therapy! I am on Mental Health Medication! Also, I have a lawyer that’s doing the best she can to rectify this situation!

Madison County Detention Center has yet to answer for the deaths of Harvey Hill, Larry Thompson, & Lanekia Brown! Those are the most recent cases, aside from my own. (Look into these cases)

Right now, the MDOC is “under fire” due to the situations that happen behind bars slowly coming to light! In efforts to save herself, the MDOC Commissioner, Pelicia Hall, is currently resigning! That should say enough within itself!!

Hopefully, my story will bring light to the situation that’s going on in the state of Mississippi! Note: We are STILL living in a “Jim Crow” era down here! #ParchmanPrison #MDOC #CivilUnrest
