THREAD As one of many #WomenForBernie, I'd like to share what a platform that addresses sexism looks like. I envision a society where women — including Black women, Native women, poor women, lesbian and queer women, disabled women, immigrant women, Muslim women & trans women /1
— are able to live the lives they dream of. Whether that means advancing their career, nurturing a family, pursuing an education or passion, or all of the above. We must remove systemic injustice to make that happen. /2
Women’s rights are human rights. As the Congresswoman from WA-06, I will fight for:

✅ Reproductive justice for people of all genders, including trans women. /3
✅ Safe, legal, affordable abortion, birth control, and family planning services as part of Medicare for All.
✅ Affordable, high-quality pre- and post-natal care for all people, regardless of race, sexual orientation, income, location, or education. /4
✅ Reducing African-American maternal mortality by cosponsoring the MOMMA's Act (H.R.1897).
✅ Inclusion of gender-confirmation surgery and medical care in Medicare for All. /5
✅ Cosponsoring the Paycheck Fairness Act. End discriminatory pay practices — especially for women of color, mothers, lesbian & queer women, indigenous women & trans women. Equal pay will have ripple effects thru/o the economy, helping lift millions of families out of poverty. /6
✅ HIV/AIDS care and prevention.
✅ Scientifically accurate sexuality education.
✅ 12 weeks of paid family leave, 2 weeks of paid vacation, and one week of paid sick days per year for every worker in America. /7
✅ Expansion of the WIC program, so mothers and children have the healthy food they need to thrive.
✅ Making healthcare a human right enacted through Medicare for All, so women no longer have higher healthcare costs than men. /8
✅ Expansion of Social Security. According to the National Institute on Retirement Security, women are 80% more likely than men to be poor at age 65 and older. Social Security is a force for gender justice. /9
✅ $15-per-hour minimum wage pay for caregivers, who are often women who labor for free to take care of their family members. Because they are unpaid, they can’t save for retirement. Caregiver pay will dramatically increase gender equality. /10
