Today I am speaking to you in the first person, because while I am a part of a larger whole, it’s important to take off the mask and tell you the truth. I am a woman. I am a veteran. I am a STEM major. #IEndorseBernie because...
I was in my early 20’s in the 2008 financial crash and managed to find food even though my single mother was making $8.25/hr at Walmart mart. We didn’t qualify for food stamps cause we made too much money in Kansas City. We had to hide our car often; she was behind on payments.
When @Joshua4Congress says #povertyisthedraft, he is 100% right. I joined out of desperation. I was homeless because of a few missteps, even though I had a job. I was not making enough money to live close to work, and we lost the car.
While the military afforded me opportunity and I took advantage of that, many of my sisters in arms were experiencing rampant sexual violence, and thinly-veiled sexism. As a woman in the military, you were either (TW) a whore who worked her way up the ranks, or a prude.
Many women I came to know in the military persevered and are my friends to this day. The military started addressing sexual violence much more openly while I was in and I am grateful for that, but the sexism persisted.
I am making this tweet storm because I have been seeing a preponderance of white men tell this account that @SenWarren is the best choice for Americans because she’s a women, and that this account supports a recently-outed sexist candidate; always with a *tut*tut*.
Sexism is a strange beast, because it can manifest as sincerity from the delivering party or be a distortion of honesty by the receiving party. I genuinely believe the exchange between the Bernie/Warren was the latter.
But the sexism I see from white men telling me who I should vote for is the former.
I will not yield. I saw this shallow platitudinous progressivism with Obama in 2008, again with Hillary in 2016, and I’m seeing it again with Warren and Klobuchar in 2020.
Trump is an ugly manifestation of a poltitical system that the we have been blinded from for too long. Please stop telling women what you think is good for them. Just. Stop. Bernie platforms women. Bernie is THE ONLY candidate I am passionate about.
I’ve been voting age since 2008. I didn’t vote for a candidate in all that time, except when I filled in Bernie’s name on that 2016 presidential ballot. I don’t want to vote for a woman that used her 0.0001% Cherokee heritage to be considered the first diversity hire at Harvard.
I want a candidate who says Climate Change is a racial issue because it disproportionately affects a large number of people of color. I want a candidate that platforms women of color who can speak to a portion of the population in an entirely different language.
I want a candidate that lets a black woman take the mic at one of his rallies without warning, so she can speak about police brutality against people of color and platform Black Lives Matter. I think about all of the protests Bernie has attended because he stands for US.
Most of all I think of the Portland rally. A female house finch lighted Bernie’s podium. Unafraid of the screaming fans around it. A symbol of joy and a good omen in some Native cultures.
There are millions more reasons I endorse Bernie. #IEndorseBernie because #ClimateChange is an immoveable deadline. You cannot negotiate with climate change, only mitigate the fallout. Bernie has the best plan.
Now back our regularly scheduled programming...Bernie is the #M4A candidate!
