This proposed change is WILD. MoscowMitch proposes to let Trump make HEARSAY AND OTHER EVIDENTIARY OBJECTIONS after opening statements.
A hearsay objection tries to limit admissibility of OUT OF COURT STATEMENTS. Practically all the evidence in this impeachment is 'out of court' statements, and many of the witnesses that could corroborate the statements are ones that Trump/Mitch refuse to allow to testify.
Potentially this allows Mitch to say -- "see, they have no evidence" if the evidence they have is from witnesses that do not testify. If Roberts imposes literal application of evidence, and Trumpers object to hearsay evidence, that is exactly what will happen.
Also, for all those that called me nuts for saying Mitch could change the rules based on 51 votes before or during the trial ... that's what he is doing.
