3. The overwhelming majority of Mainers say the Senate should insist on seeing relevant documents and calling witnesses who can provide direct, first-hand evidence. Collins consistently voted against that yesterday. I doubt Maine voters will be impressed by her fig-leaf position.
4. In fact, Maine voters already see Collins as someone who who makes decisions based on what's best for her and least risky politically. They don't see her as acting on principle or what's best for Maine.
5. And voters say that if/when Collins votes to acquit President Trump it will be because she is following a party line and doing what she believes is in her own political interest.
6. The bottom line is that Collins will be out of step with her state by voting to protect Trump and to give him a pass for his abuse of power. Those votes will continue to burnish a growing view of Collins as someone who puts politics above principle.
