During the press conference with Trump's House impeachment advisers, an NBC reporter pressed the Congress members on a precedent for a witness- and evidence-gathering-free Senate trial.

Reps. Johnson and Zeldin ducked the question.

A vibrant back-and-forth ensued.

After Rep. Zeldin kept referring to the "House trial," I asked him why he said that when the Constitution gives the Senate the "sole power to try all impeachments."

Rep. Meadows correctly said "should have been 'investigation.'" Zeldin buckled in.

Rep. Ratcliffe also defended Zeldin's language and would not answer what specific precedent GOP has for not calling witnesses or hearing evidence in a Senate trial, in the clip shared in the above tweet.
