Brexit wasn't an act of god or a natural disaster. It was a policy debate. A critical one.

One on which the Labour Party under Corbyn was an unelectable combination of disinterested, confused, and missing in action.

Also, in my field (trade) alone Jeremy Corbyn spent a a great deal of time talking out of his allotment.

The EU Commission has released the Negotiating Mandate it wants from EUCO for talks with the United Kingdom.

No surprise, protecting the Single Market is paramount.

Also an immediate shot across the UK's bow.

Commission confirms their preference is @MichelBarnier's "House" Model.

A big umbrella agreement covering how the EU and UK will co-exist in the future, with specific agreements under it covering things like tariffs.

UK would probably prefer individual standalone deals.

It's much easier for everyone in your country if you don't sign it up to 19 different binding treaties on the same thing (say, animal health regulation) that look radically different.

I’m getting rather tired of the equivocation around this Labour antisemitism issue, so here’s a thread for confused pundits & voters. Some smart people out there have been hoodwinked by dishonest political hacks, or are simply too tribal to accept the difference in the following:
People of any political persuasion must acknowledge:
1) Every party will have some policies you don’t like
2) Every party will also have rogue members, or leaders, who said nasty things too
3) usually, if a party has policies you disagree with, you simply don’t vote for them
4) for Britain’s Jews & their allies, the issue with Labour Party is none of the above. I repeat: it is *none of the above*. So Corbynists, pls stop obfuscating, strawmanning &deflecting.
5) the issue is Labour Party stands accused of being *institutionally antisemitic* (racist)

What this informed article tells us is that the sure fire way of stopping no deal is a specific vote of no confidence followed by an alternative government within 14 days

2) not to be overdramatic but all other routes are risky and could be blocked. But constitutionally the primary defence against a rogue government remains in place, vote no confidence, bring Johnson down, form a new government around an alternative PM and pass legislation
3) So there is only one actual blocker - Corbyn. Either insufficient MPs believe he can command the confidence of the house or insufficient (Tory mostly but not exclusively) would support him.

But if he is forced out, insufficient left Labour MPs would support anyone else

Labour antisemitism in the news again. Three main issues as I see it with the reporting on this.
#1 A lack of understand (or perhaps a wilful ignorance) around the difference between statistical & anecdotal evidence.
If you collect data about the attitudes or behaviour of a particular group (in this case Labour party members), you need to compare it with equivalent data on other groups (or maybe the same group at other times).

First of all, the most obvious thing: Corbyn did this move not only because of a new Brexit strategy but above all because of a party strategy: the hemorrhage of moderate or outraged MPs had to be stopped somehow. The Independent group surely was concerning him. We’ll see.
Sure this move won’t stop the MPs shocked by the accusations of antisemitism, but it might have a good impact on the europhile ones. The new mantra is clear: until the choice is between May’s deal and No Deal, the new Labour weapon is a new, 2nd referendum.

Me : A win. As with most things in life, it's a question of compromises and what is more important. For me, a Labour Government under Corbyn is more important than brexit. Obviously, I'd prefer both.

Me : No. As I said, what's more important for me is a Labour Government under Corbyn not brexit or not. I view the path they are following is fine. The Tory party is in open civil war and has become a party of a divided soft brexit.
... I take the view that there has long existed a viable compromise option along the EEA / EFTA path which gives both camps most of what they wish. The fact the Conservatives have dismissed the Norway option with mostly myth is ... fine by me. I am happy to watch them implode.
