Hi, (Naomi’s husband here), happy to help.1st thing is to define a goal for investigating (eg find logging sites for protest, find which firms are involved & find legal ways to stop them,etc). 2nd,lots of time/loc- stamped vids. Don’t try to analyze them, just get lots of them.
As I want everyone to be safe, I recommend dash cams. 4K or 1080 resolution at least, 3 minute loops, turn them on and let them roll (most can track your location, which is good to identify location of trucks, what times, etc).
As long as your not sharing the license plate numbers publicly or we are not, there’s no issue. oaic.gov.au/privacy/austra… (also, insurance companies in Aus & US normally give insurance discounts if you have a dash cam. My favorites are made by ROAV & Cobra. But really any will do.
You may also mount your GoPro, SJCam (cheaper but almost as good as GP) or mount your phone. Pro tip: always use video! Trying to point & shoot is dangerous & normally less successful. Regardless of what you use, turn on the mic and talk out loud the crossstreets & locations.
& for the hardcore citizen (not while driving) journalists: NikonP900 or P1000 great for wide open spaces and far away photography targets: (Pls note: I’m neither affiliated with nor do I represent these OEMs, but I use all of them).

I set this up just now (parked on the side of the road...safely with hazards on!) 
What I can do is map all instances with any of our commercial gis programs or set up a custom, public google map. I will also cross research locations to publicly available gov’t contracts to fill in any gaps. From there it’s your info, just use it legally, ethically, & civilly.
!!Remember, those truck drivers are earning a living to feed their families, they are NOT the enemy!! So please do not interact with them. Collect info passively & I’ll help organize it. Then you can decide what to do now that you have more transparency into the situation.
Why am I willing to help? Cause as I posted last week, US nat’l resource exploitation firms are tied with yours’ & other countries’ entities.This is a global attack on our Earth and we must draw a line in the sand-so 1 team/1 fight.
I currently work with indigenous clients & I have watched the same opportunism in the wake of natural disasters occur right before my eyes. It is enough & it must stop. There is no sustainability for our very air with the continued pillaging of the planet for fossil fuels.
