The false sense of security people feel thinking the Constitution will protect them from dictatorship. The Constitution enabled this. There would be no Trump without the Electoral College and he would’ve been removed if they didn’t make the Senate an anti-democratic institution.
At some point, however radical the idea, people need to understand that the structure of the United States government does not represent who we are as a nation today. Whether or not it was intentional, that’s the effect. We must design a better system than this antiquated model.
Modern constitutions include a clear right to healthcare, right to education, right to be free from gross inequity. At minimum, a reasonable pathway for the people to hold the president accountable. Our outdated Constitution contains none of that. It must be updated, or replaced.
We can honor and venerate the Founders all day and still not accept running our nation based on 1700’s software. That is crazy and unacceptable. It’s a recipe to be left behind.
The pathway to amending the Constitution is *also* crazy. Passing the House, the anti-democratic Senate, the Electoral College appointed President *and* 2/3rds of the state legislatures approving? Never gonna happen these days. Not a functional process. Abolish and replace it.
