One of the gayest episodes of Russian historical study is that the Anglosphere communists LARP as “revisionists” to this grand survey of reactionary historiography written by right refusniks like Pipes and the few monographs that got translated in the 90’s.
The end of the Imperial Army at Mogilev.

Most of the White commanders are prisoners at a local monastery for being Kornilovites. They escape.

The last Imperial Army commander, Nikolai Dukhonin, patiently waits for Krylenko and is bayoneted to death by the Bolshevik gaurd.
Ataman Kaledin and the start of the White Movement in the Don as the independence of the Don Host. Kaledin did much harm unfortunately.

His only biography was Published in Franco’s Spain by Russian Cossacks who helped crush the Anarchist and Communists there.
General Alekseev, the best strategist of the Russian Army before its collapse took control of a very small group of Cossacks and escaped Kornilovites, including a surly Kornilov.

Russian sources have surpassed our scholarship on these men. So much untranslated.
The Drama of the Ukrainian Rada and the Petrograd Soviet in the months between October 1917-January 1918

In the early days of the Civil War, the “railroad war” entire countries appeared and disappeared with bands of armored trains

You could roll up and execute whole governments
When Trotsky flippantly dismissed the Germans in January, the Germans began the “11 day war” in February 19th.

The Bolsheviks had destroyed their own army, what followed was perhaps the most pathetic route in modern history

Ukrainian Rada returns to be crushed by Skoropadsky
@uisbg1

I thought of your previous German posts here.
@uisbg1 What where the allies doing? They were not sure themselves.

As I’m going through the history of the 339th it sounds remarkably similar to the soldiers of today. Small x000 man deployments with no objective taking casualties from an enemy that fades away. Familiar form.
@uisbg1 The creation of the Red Army was an absolute political cave by the Bolsheviks ideologically after letting the imperial army fall to pieces, but easy to call back up. These ex-officers were unemployed, politically illiterate, and could be forced into compulsive service when signed
@uisbg1 On the punitively implemented officer commissariats
@uisbg1 The ideology of “war communism“ of 1918-21 was fundamentally anti-agrarian and completely ignorant of the social dynamics of the peasant commune, which ultimately won the political argument that sadly placated it.

Once political power had been consolidated, they were not safe.
@uisbg1 The Civil War was basically a 5 year replay of the 400 year expansion of Russia. The two most dangerous strategic situation were the Komuch and then Denikin once they threaten the hold on the central and Upper Volga.

Unfortunately, the SRs were the biggest losers here.
@uisbg1 “Sex Worker Rights are Workers Rights!”

Lenin:
@uisbg1 Krasnov was really the main force in rebuilding the Don Army and the South Russian Front after the Ice March, he was frankly the hero of the reorganization in the critical year of 1918. But his death in 1943 has made him even less known than the other big White Commanders.
@uisbg1 The victory which saw the volunteers grow from nearly destroyed Cossack Host to the most serious threat to Bolshevik power militarily was the total rout of the North Caucasus Soviet Army, a victory scored by Krasnov holding three armies on the Volga, and Denikin/Vrangel’s actions
