Ep. 2B of 4.

So the fake networking guys have gotten Makena's cash & car. But her dad comes thru especially for the car. She has almost dealt. But a pal introduces Otero*.

It's been two months, it's embarrassing. She isn't sure whether she wants to pursue anymore, but what more can she lose. She doesn't want to lose the peace of mind.

Her pal convinces her Otero is legit and arranges the meeting.

They meet Otero at a coffee shop on Lenana Road.

She explains the whole drama and why it is critical that the story never gets out. Although, she has the car, she's convinced the cash maybe lost. But ako sure somehow that Shylock really knows James, or he took advantage of the situation to rip her family off.

He's not clean.

Otero is specifically trained to find these kinds of guys. They agree a price.

It's been a whole 6 months plus since James potead with the cash. Makena has her car back, but she has had to sell it because she needed to put the business cash back. And that bank over draft issue.

She moved to a smaller house as measures to curb the deficit that looked like a billion shillings. She is cutting out a lot of things.

But Makena also says to Otero that, ‘This Joy chic who introduced me to the networking group… I am dead sure she knows these guys she's in it.’

Side Note: Joy has been calling and chatting with her almost every week, trying to know how far the case is.

And Makena was forthcoming until when she told her that her dad was paying the Shylock. She was very happy, and she even said, ‘Me I’d listen to your dad. Wachia Mungu.’

She still isn't sure whether to pursue.

She has had quite a bit of peace of mind, and she’s been prayed up quite a bit, for someone who never said grace at all. She asks to think about it.

Also Otero doesn't look the part of a bounty hunterShe risks it. What more can she lose.

Otero's Profile at the second meeting is worse. He is a bit too drunk for 9:00am. She comes with the friend who introduced him, and then she leaves them to have a small chat.

Finally she comes straight at him. She almost writes him off. But Otero manages to convince her.

Amebeba newspaper clipings and photos and files on cases he has worked on.

He guarantees 100% he can track James. He is specifically trained to find these kinds of guys. He tells her, he was the best bounty hunter in the system.

But not anymore. Nowadays he is a 'consultant.'

Meaning, he was kicked off the force for things he does not want to talk about.

They agree a price. 200K to find James. She gives him 50. He also says, he can help her build the case against the Shylock, but that’s an additional 100K.

Akamshow 'Ebu Prove yourself. Find James.'

Ako na hope. ‘If we can get James, we can get the Shylock.’

He insists that if she wants her money back, she has to go to the cops so that they arrest him when he tracks James down.

She can then charge him in court. ‘After that getting the cash will be easy even for mere cops.’

Makena agrees.

He does his investigations, constantly updating and asking Makena questions. She finds out Joy is in on it and the other 3 guys, and that James and the Shylock are really good friends.

Finally after 2 weeks Otero says he has located him.

She CANNOT believe it.

He tells Makena to get the cops ready, but not to say who or how she knows.

She tells her dad they are about to catch James, and might need the cops.

Her dad tells her to lick her wounds and move on. ‘These kinds of guys are dangerous. Let it go. You escaped with your life.’

She tells Otero she cant find good cops. He tells her I can get you few guys that are trustworthy, but you have to sort them out.

He speaks to a top guy and familiarises him with the case.

He says he is game. Arrests are for the next weekend. Otero finalises the tracking.

Next weekend, a Saturday, Makena is at her house warming with her Chama.

Joy is also there.

In fact, it was meant to be at Joy’s but she cancelled because ‘her house was being painted.’

Makena readily offered to help. She wanted to keep her eyes on her constantly. It worked.

Chama is on.

Makena is playing it cool. Finally she receives the call.

It’s game on.

She calls the cop who comes to her house with 6 other plain clothes officers. Joy akainuliwa juu juu, tenje na kila kitu ikawekwa kando, kidogo yuko nyuma ya Landrover.

Destination: Stenje.

James is picked a few blocks from where Makena used to live.

Please, he was in the house of a businesslady he'd just started dating, but of course, they met at few months ago at a networking event. Same networking group, different names. Yeye, shorts, t-shirt na slippers ndani.

Interrogation One Two. James gives names and locations. Kidogo Harry and Gibson are arrested pia.

Alafu finally the Shylock. All of them are looking hivi hivi.

The only person with a clue on what is going on, is Joy, because she was arrested at Makena’s house. Joy was slippery.

Makena needed to have her at an actual location, because Otero never found her house at all.

On Monday official charges are made, on Wednesday they appear before in court, they deny everything, James says Makena is bitter because he left her.

On Friday they are all out on bail.

Outside the courtroom, Otero brings Makena details of scams that James is being tafutwad for. He is being chased for one thing or the other, but it’s mostly fraud. And the cases date as far back as 8 years before this new scam. Which means clearly, to her now, these are pros.

Otero tells her to her face. These guys won't pay you virahisi. Your only chance at any money is to negotiate with James and Shylock.

'Wakupatie pesa ata kama ni nusu, hii mambo iishe. Bure the other chance is to engage a [debt collector]. They are expensive, but wanajua kazi.’

Sato night Makena calls James to negotiate. He trash talks. Tells her ‘Ka-negotiate na baba yako. Hii kesi inaeza endelea for 10 years nikitaka na hakuna kitu utanifanya. And if you try anything again, your father’s name and business will be in the front pages of all newspapers.'

And then he adds insult to injury after robbery.

'Na wewe pia. Nipigie simu tena uone saa hii. Nita post nudes zako na video zako online. I can send them to bloggers right now. Nimesema leave me alone. Nijaribu tena.

She loses it & says screw it, she is getting the collectors.

Otero tells her, let me deal with the collectors. I will be their link. You can hold me accountable. I need 250K. Now. And 250K, when the cash is in your account. She says she doesn’t have cash. Otero says, sawa. But utanipatia pesa zote cash. 5 people, 100K each.’ She is game.

Let me tell you. James woke up, on Monday morning, in an abandoned house, in Nyali. Beach Front. He was picked from a third woman's house, Sunday night 10:00pm.

Akashikwa vita mzuri kwanza fasta fasta, alafu akarushwa kwa boot ya gari. Teke teke, hadi Coast. Short na vest pekee.

So it's Otero, James, two other guys in the house and one more watching the door outside.

They serve him breakfast, and then they leave. They come back after two hours, at 10:00am.

Otero: Nina swali kiasi tu. Uko na pesa mtu yeyote?
James: Sina.
Otero: Kuna mtu anakudai pesa?

James: Hakuna.
Otero: Kuna mtu anasema uko na pesa yake?
James: Hakuna.

Otero shows him the photos of everyone, and his face in court. He acts dumb. They tandika him again a good one to show they mean business. They let him recover. And then they start the interrogations again.

He is slow with information, but eventually he speaks. But he speaks with the vibe of, ‘The money is gone. Even if you do me what, that money is not coming back?’

They get down the details of how the scam works, who is who in the team, what do they do, how they split cash, etc.

So Otero tells him, ‘Hiyo pesa ya huyu msichana, tuaniataka saa hii!’

He says he doesn’t have it. Ati they were lovers and she is just saying things.

They tandika him a bit again, and then he says he needs two days. The guys give him two hours. He says, he has 500K at home.

He will need time to withdraw the rest.

Otero is like, ‘Hiyo 500k kwanza ni yetu. We need the other KE 3.5M with it at the same time.

He says he can try and get 2.5M in one day, and but the other 1.5M will need 2. They ask him where he will get it from, he says he will borrow.

They get him fresh clothes, he showers and eats. And then wait till evening.

At night they ship him back to Nairobi in much the same way. They go straight to his real house in Kile. His wife & 2 boys are excited to see him. He's come back from a business trip in 'Nakuru.'

Abeg.

He wants to go to the bedroom to get the cash but the guys are not sure what else he has in there. They go with him and bring out a briefcase.

It has money.

Lots and lot of money. About 3.5M in 1K notes. There are other items, but the guys are only interested in Makena's money.

Shortly later, Otero calls original arresting / investigating cops come to his house. They interrogate and arrest his naive wife.

Otero leaves with James, who is leading them to the Shylock.

James calls him casually and he says where he is drinking at. The rough him up too.

They take him to his house some affluent houses around Magana, Waiyaki Way.

James has sold him out and he confesses. He agrees to pay the 5.5M for the car that was paid for by the dad. He agrees to pay interest too.

He asks they come in the morning, coz cash is in the office.

Otero and the guys say they can stay at his house and wait for morning. Or they can go to the nearest police station with him.

He agrees to have them in their house. They tie them up.

PS: When they got to the house they find that he has a yard full of cars. But he is a Shylock.

Otero calls the arresting cop, and he comes with a team. They scan through the cars in the yard and take details.

In the morning they go to some office on Argwing Kodhek Road. He opens a safe. He easily pays 5.5M, signs a document saying why.

He pays 500K for the cops’ trouble.

Immediately after he is arrested cops and has to explain why he has cars that are being looked for, reported to have been in accidents, stolen all.

The other 3 guys implicated were also found with logbooks & title deeds etc.

And that's how, Makena got all her cash back.
