All over Alberta, families & children are paying for the #UCP's decision to prioritize a $4.7 billion corporate handout over Albertans. It's hard to keep track of the communities losing parent link programs, family support services & jobs as a result. Here's just a few:
#ableg
Airdrie (@AngelaPittAB):
"I can tell you right now that our Family Respite Program will need to end completely by the end of March and that is devastating for us for sure." discoverairdrie.com/local/loss-of-…
High River (@roger4LivMac):
"Kessel says the plan as of now is to stay the course and hope they can continue come April 1."
highriveronline.com/local/changes-…
Cochrane (@PeterGuthrie99):
"Unless the govt's stance changes, Western Rocky View Family & Community Resource Centre and the Parent Link Centre are facing a 40 per cent reduction in funding for children's services in this spring's provincial budget."

Fort Saskatchewan (@HomeniukJ):
“It’s much less money than the agencies had before,” said Boonstra. “So there may be some similar activities and supports offered but we’ll be looking at fewer programs for sure.” fortsaskatchewanrecord.com/news/local-new…
Edmonton:
"My heart literally drops in grief when I think about not having our parent link programs available."
cbc.ca/news/canada/ed…
Sturgeon County (MLA Dale Nally):
"The Sturgeon Community Resource Network, which has been receiving funding for 23 years, did not meet the requirements for the new program." stalberttoday.ca/local-news/fun…
Medicine Hat (@michaelaglasgo, @drew_barnes):
"Provincial funding for parent link centres across Alberta, including in Medicine Hat, will be ending in the spring of 2020, and parents who utilize the programs are worried about what will happen next." chatnewstoday.ca/2019/11/22/par…
Lacombe/Ponoka (@RonOrrMLA):
"And it stands to reason that, with no increase in funding and providing services to more children, there will likely be less services.”
ponokanews.com/news/future-of…
Rocky Mountain House (@JasonNixonAB):
"Parent Link currently only assists with children ages 0 to 5. The new Family Resource Network program intends to help children from the age of 0 to 18. Rafuse says there will be some layoffs..."
rdnewsnow.com/2019/11/21/par…
Crowsnest Pass (@roger4LivMac):
"We don't exist anymore and our funding is totally gone. We can reapply under the new framework but there's no guarantee we'll get any of that funding.”
passherald.ca/archives/20012…
Wetaskiwin (@Richard4Alberta):
"With Lacombe now belonging to a different network zone and with the overall budget being smaller than it used to be, difficult decisions had to be made, she said."
wetaskiwintimes.com/news/local-new…
Rimbey (@JasonNixonAB):
"The fact that...contracts between Children’s Services and local groups have been cancelled has already started to show the devastating effects in Rimbey as parents and staff come to terms with the eminent closure of Parent Link."
rimbeyreview.com/news/rimbey-pa…
Stettler (MLA Nate Horner):
"There may be avenues for other funding down the line, but at this point, it’s unclear precisely what the future holds for the organization."
stettlerindependent.com/news/stettlers…
Canmore (@MirandaRosinUCP):
"Provincial funding for Parent Link services ends on March 31. Services will be reduced throughout January, February and March as we wrap up the Parent Link program."
The Minister will respond by saying that decisions haven't yet been made about ongoing funding, but in reality, the complicated new requirements, restrictions on available funding & incredible uncertainty - means many programs are already closing or will close imminently. #ableg
The overall budget for these services has been decreased by $12 million & these organizations must now serve a wider age range of children (0 to 18 years, instead of 0 to 6 years). #ableg
Parent link programs are closing. More will not get funding. Jobs will be lost. Families will lose out. But profitable corporations? They're walking away with a sweet handout. These are the priorities of this gov't. #ableg
