The belief that the Democratic establishment is conspiring to stop Sanders is somehow coexisting with the fact that the Democratic establishment could've united around Biden, and didn't. vox.com/2020/2/7/21122…
I've seen a lot of baroque theories for how the Democratic establishment is trying to destroy Sanders by something something Iowa, even though the Iowa clusterfuck has been extremely good for Sanders, and very bad for his top competitors.
But if the Dem establishment had been unified in wanting to decide this primary, they would have done it by uniting around Biden early, as they did around Gore in 2000, and Clinton 2016.

They didn't, because in truth, there isn't a united Dem establishment right now.

This is genuinely outrageous. Does anyone think that if Wright had said "I'm furious about how high the national debt is, and worried that America has lost is leadership role globally," that he'd have been suspended?
If there is a problem with Wright's work — if it was false or wrong or misleading — he should be fired. The idea that he shouldn't have, or on his own time, express, personal views is absurd.
This doesn't make the public trust us. It makes the public think that we're hiding the truth from them, and punishing those who speak out, or who dare to stray from a safe, and itself deeply biased, conventional wisdom.

As a label, "socialism" is unpopular, particularly with older voters, because it brings to mind the planned economies and totalitarianism of the 20th century. But Sanders tends to be pretty popular, because that's clearly not what he intends.
Sanders’s vulnerabilities lurk in the unpopular parts of his platform: tens of trillions in implied tax increases, abolishing 160 million private insurance plans by government fiat, decriminalizing unauthorized border crossing.
But lots of liberal Democrats have those vulnerabilities. One thing Sanders has, as a strength, is this unusual capacity to be both to be both an insider and a critic of the political system at the same time.

In 2016, @mollyesque had a sharp observation on why Trump was winning.

“All the other candidates say ‘Americans are angry, and I understand,’” she wrote. “Trump says, ‘I’M angry.’”

There is a natural psychological tendency, when working inside a system, to defend your accomplishments in a way that slowly turns you into a defender of the system. That hasn’t happened to Sanders.
Democrats who believe in, and in some cases built, the political and economic system balance a celebration of its successes — think of Biden repeating the Obama administration’s accomplishments during each and every debate — with an ongoing recognition of its failures.
