THREAD #IndianMedia

In a media landscape of nearly 400 news channels, some of India's most prominent outlets are polarising audiences, skewing their reporting and ratcheting up divisive rhetoric.

We spoke with @kavita_krishnan about the problem on India's airwaves.
We interviewed @sudhirchaudhary - one of India's most prominent news hosts, whose show airs on @ZeeNewsHindi.

We asked for his response to critics who accuse him and his channel of uncritical support to the BJP-led national government.

Here's what he said:
Many of India's news channels have taken to amplifying the nationalistic rhetoric of the BJP.

Why? Is it vested interests, ideology, commercial imperatives...or all of these factors?
“When the coverage is so unwavering in its support of the powerful, and so consistently at odds with the common man, it enrages people.”

@vineetdelhi on the credibility issues facing Indian media.
