THREAD. Someone asked me about @PeteButtigieg's donations from Millionaires & Billionaires, so let me see if I can make this as simple as possible...
1. The max donation ANYONE can give to a candidate in the 2020 election cycle is $2800 for the primary & $2800 for the general. You can, technically, donate $5600 now, but if they do not win the nomination to the general election, then candidates have to return that second $2800.
2. @PeteButtigieg has donations from more than 800,000 individuals. The average contribution in the fourth quarter was $33 and 98% of contributions were less than $200. (max=$2800) He doesn't accept money from registered federal lobbyists, corporate PACs or fossil fuel industry.
3. @PeteButtigieg is honest about accepting money from everyone, no matter their worth. "Whether you can give $3 or $300, whether you are a Democrat, Independent or Republican, we welcome you to our campaign and won’t turn you away if you’re ready to help rid us of Donald Trump."
4. As President, @PeteButtigieg will "champion campaign finance reforms to restore faith in our Democracy because dollars should never be allowed to drown out the will of the people." Pete states, "The only promise anyone gets is that we will use the money to beat Donald Trump."
5. In his commitment to transparency, @PeteButtigieg made public a list of "bundlers" who have raised over $25,000 by encouraging others to donate via their fundraisers. Again: max donation per person is $2800 for the entire primary election cycle no matter how money is raised.
6. @PeteButtigieg also opened up ALL of his fundraisers to media. Even his smallest events have at least one news representative in attendance rotating in from a pool of media outlets. Ergo, everyone can be certain there are no "secret deals" being made in these events.
7. @PeteButtigieg has also been open about saying that in the general election, Democrats "can’t go into this fight against Donald Trump with one hand tied behind our back,” and warns against “unilaterally disarming” as Trump will not & intends to spend $1 billion+ to win.
8. Summary: $2800/$5600 max. Anyone can donate. All are welcome. Nothing is being hidden. No secret deals or promises. In fact, @PeteButtigieg's commitment to transparency is so resolute that his staff made a webpage dedicated to it: peteforamerica.com/the-record/tra…
