Some useful historical context is that, until the past few years, there was far, far less in the way of real world flyering, leafleting, handbill posting, banner drops, and the like by white supremacists, and most of what did occur was done by Klan groups (in part to compensate
for their declining ability to hold real world public events), with occasional contributions from neo-Nazis. A few years ago, however, the alt right adopted this strategy and went at it with a vengeance, as did some of the newer neo-Nazi groups whose rise paralleled that of the
alt right. At first, they often targeted college campuses, because such incidents on campus were sure to generate the controversy and publicity the white supremacists sought, but now they do a lot of off-campus incidents, too.
