"No Code" is predicated on the notion that software development = writing code, but your average developer spends a tiny fraction of their time doing that. It also denies the obvious: it's not code, it's *logic* that non-programmers find difficult at any level of abstraction
We've been here before. The key benefit of allowing end users to create their own apps is putting problem & solution in the same brain. But that brain *will* need training. They'll need to *think* like programmers. And that takes a long time. Cue a shortage of No Code app gurus.
And when the app developer meets a problem for which the platform/tool has no out-of-the-box drag-and-drop solution... Well, it's like a flight that takes you 99% of the way to New York. Hope you're a strong swimmer!
The platform/tool vendors envisage a market where "real programmers" fill in those gaps. But if they've not been involved in the solution throughout, they will have to get up to speed on what your app guru has built and - more importantly - why.
Note that there was never a market for writing custom Excel VBA code to "fill in the gaps" to power users' spreadsheet apps. It could never have worked, way too much context required, and power users lacked the skills to express requirements precisely enough
Having said all of this, a working solution on a No Code platform could serve as a reference for software development using professional techniques. But, again, we've been here before - Rapid Development. Businesses won't invest $ to have it "done properly" if it appears to work
In conclusion, there's no doubt that No Code and Low Code tools have their place in the web space, just as MS Access and Excel have theirs in the desktop space, but if you're seriously considering line-of-business or operations systems built this way, think again #ShadowIT
