1. Republicans should not take Bernie Sanders lightly. But I'm hearing some problematic comparisons between Trump 2016 and Bernie 2020.

The biggest among them:

Trump's policies — including immigration — are the American Middle.

Bernie's policies are not.
2. The other day, I was speaking to utility workers in my very blue city. They were lamenting Joe Biden's performance and the idea that Bernie Sanders might be the nominee. They do not like Donald Trump, at all. But they won't vote for Bernie unless he denounces socialism.

So...
3. They believe Florida will go for Donald Trump over Bernie Sanders by some ridiculous margin, embarrassing them because no one is going to trust Bernie on the economy.

Barack Obama didn't scare them. Donald Trump is an ass to them. But not scary.

Bernie Sanders scares them.

You all know how I feel about early general election polls. That's especially true of adult and even registered voter samples.

But wow.

@Rasmussen_Poll has @realDonaldTrump WAY UP over @BernieSanders. The internals are very ugly for Democrats. It's a complete wipe out.
@Rasmussen_Poll @realDonaldTrump @BernieSanders Here are the crosstabs for those who have access. The top problem is how poorly Bernie Sanders performs among women.

Worth noting, NBC and others favorable to Bernie show significant underperformance among female voters.

Trump carries workers $30k-$50k by 17 points, 56%/39%. He only trails one income group, ≤ $30k, albeit by 2 points, which Bernie carries 48%/46%.

1. While I see obvious similarities between Trump and Sanders, there are many big differences—clearly too difficult for the media mind to comprehend.

Donald Trump faced and defeated a deep bench of pols with both political talent with governing experience.

Not Bernie Sanders.
2. The second big difference between Trump and Sanders is where each falls on the spectrum.

Big media never understood. Trump's positions were firmly in the American Middle, and largely aligned w/ Republican orthodoxy.

Some would argue the true orthodoxy.

Not Bernie Sanders.
3. There's an important distinction between the legitimate grievances Trump and Sanders speak to, and their proposals to address them.

While Middle America agrees with both of them on the grievances themselves, they don't agree with both on how to address them.

CBS allowed a question to be posed to Pete Buttigieg, without it being corrected, about Russia interfering to help Bernie Sanders and Donald Trump.

That's fake news, folks. On a major network's presidential debate.
Now Amy Klobuchar just used a baseless, and dangerous claim about voter suppression in Georgia to pander to black voters in South Carolina.

Also, fake news, folks.
Now Elizabeth Warren just repeated the lie about her boss "wishing her luck" and "sent me packing" because she was pregnant.

That of course is bullshit. Didn't happen. But hey, she figured it would be cool to use to attack Michael Bloomberg.
