To save you the click:

Trump, by denying it or trying to accelerate it.

Sanders, by attacking it too vigorously.

Framing: "Both sides."
If people read only one of my threads on Twitter, I think I'd want it to be that one.

We really need to internalize the difference between the compass, the navigation, the movement, and the corrections, or we'll find ourselves constantly confused by ideological prestidigitation.
If I had to express my preference for Elizabeth Warren, it would be that she combines the compass and the navigation better than any candidate I've ever seen.

Sanders is admittedly not as strong on the navigation, but nobody I've ever seen has been as strong at the compass.
Either way, to take the position of either and frame it as the flip side of the coin from Donald Trump is pure hocus pocus nonsense. It's not even the same coin. They aren't even both coins.

Abracadbra!

Watch the hands closely at all times.
Once you've fixed the magic trick of the compass and the navigation, go back and read to watch the trick.
Watch how it deftly sets up two positions as balanced equals—the setup.

Watch as it devotes the bulk of its length to laying out the position of a oil & gas CEO, then slyly reframing that position as the neutral reasonable middle between those two equally bad extremes—the turn.
Now that we've made these things—blinkered climate change accelerationism and maximalist climate course correction—different but equal, frame the final sentence in such a way as to make even the value of that difference disappear—the prestige.

Abracadabra! They're the same!
Be sure to speak with the oil & gas CEO and the corporate climate change action committee.

Do not speak to the IPCC or any other climate scientists.

Presto!
I remember when Warren was looking to be the front-runner, and they played this exact same magic trick on her. Unrealistic! they said.

If she gains again, they'll play it on her again.

Since Bernie is leading, they'll play it on him.

Presto!
Now is the time for compass statements.

We are HERE. We absolutely must go THERE.

Avoid all sleights of hand designed to keep us where we are
Oh hey maybe if you read this & think that Warren or Sanders AREN'T good at navigation/compass, realize that sort of analysis is v. separate from my point and using this space to blast another very progressive candidate is annoying and its own sort of immobilizing distraction.
