If you care about how justice is meted out in this country, you should read this—particularly the opening, about how Stu Gerson, as a young AUSA during the Nixon administration, witnessed the DOJ’s independence first-hand.
It’s both inspiring and sad—inspiring, because of the ideal it describes; sad, because of how that ideal has now been tarnished.
The opening of Stu’s piece, about his superiors’ willingness to pursue justice against a powerul politician regardless of the politics, brings to mind @maddow’s amazing podcast about the prosecution of Vice President Agnew.
It’s profoundly depressing to think that today the country can’t expect the same commitment to impartial justice that it saw from the DOJ during the *Nixon* administration.
