Two new #COVID19 cases in WA. While King Co. case is likely travel-related, we don’t know where the new Snohomish Co. case was infected. We're working hard to ID how these cases were exposed and trace people who might have come into contact with them.

1/Epi studies show striking age differences in #COVID19 cases. In China, only 2% are <20 yrs old (Wu, JAMA). Relative risk is much higher above 30 (Sun, LancetDigHealth). It's likely kids are infected but have mild or no symptoms. We need more data from outside China to confirm.
2/Why are #COVID cases detected more often in adults? Older adults have higher risk due to frailty and aging immune system. But this does not explain increased risk across all adult age groups vs children. One possible explanation might be antibody dependent enhancement (ADE).
3/Dengue #virus is a good example of ADE. There are 4 dengue serotypes, and infection generates protection only against the same serotype (no cross-protection). Later infection with a different serotype is a risk factor for more severe disease: dengue hemorrhagic fever.

Chinese officials screwed up their initial response to the outbreak in Wuhan by prioritizing party loyalty over science and public health. They were more concerned about making the leader look good than saving lives.

Xi told Trump he "feels they are doing very well" stopping #COVIDー19. Trump took his word for it, natch.

We don't know what else Xi said because the White House won't even publish call summaries anymore, because they think we have no right to know what the president is doing.

#COVID-19: It’s possible to get infected a 2nd time. People recovered by their own immune system, but the meds they use are damaging their heart, and when they get it the 2nd time, the antibody makes it worse, and they die of sudden heart failure.

I don't find this unexpected. We had similar results in the study of SARS. Challenge with the virus after vaccination actually made the resulting disease worse. One theory is this may be due to an overactive immune response due to a cytokine storm.
What I find really troubling is doctors in China had to report this anonymously to avoid communist censorship. We are not getting the whole story here. Keep in mind we don't yet know how many cases this involves and we'll have to wait for more case studies in other countries.
